Western Fuels-Colorado announces name change to Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation

Westminster, Colorado - Western Fuels-Colorado, LLC, has changed its name to Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation, LLC.

Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of wholesale electric power cooperative Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc.

The new name and logo for Tri-State's mining subsidiary reflects the organization and its employees' commitment to conservation, stewardship and environmental protection.

Since forming in 1992, the organization now named Elk Ridge Mining and Reclamation has operated New Horizon Mine near Nucla, Colorado. New Horizon Mine supplies fuel to Tri-State's Nucla Station. The organization has operated Colowyo Mine near Meeker, Colorado, since 2011 and currently supplies coal to Tri-State's Craig Station and has sold coal into the market.

The organization's two mines have received numerous awards for safety, reclamation and environmental protection. Colowyo Mine was recently named Colorado Parks and Wildlife's 2015 Partner of the Year. The mine was honored for its collaboration with Colorado Parks and Wildlife to protect and steward natural resources and create a legacy for future generations, including work on big game habitat management, sage grouse mitigation, and stream protection and watershed management.

Tri-State is a wholesale electric power supplier owned by 44 member electric cooperatives and public power districts that collectively serve 1.5 million people across 200,000 square miles of Colorado, Nebraska, New Mexico and Wyoming.
